This is a fantastic (and free) weekend-long event welcoming both locals and out-of-town visitors with fun activities, live entertainment, and more, spread across several venues in the Town of Yarmouth just a pebble’s toss from the Lighthouse Inn.
The 2019 Yarmouth Seaside Festival
Begun in 1978 thanks to the efforts of Jan Butler of South Yarmouth, the Yarmouth Seaside Festival packs a great deal of good stuff into its three days, which for this 41st running of the event fall on October 12th, 13th, and 14th.
Among the festival’s plentiful highlights is a craft fair on Saturday and Sunday at the main festival grounds of Joshua Sears Memorial Field featuring better than 125 vendors from all across New England, including plenty of local artisans: a great chance to come away with a souvenir from your Cape Cod autumn getaway. There’ll be live music, family games and rides, and other entertainment on tap for the craft fair, which runs 10 AM to 5 PM on both weekend days.
There’s also a spectacle-heavy Yarmouth Seaside Festival Parade on Route 28 scheduled for noon on that Sunday, with a theme this year of “American Pride.” The same theme applies to the festival’s annual Sand Sculpture Contest, which goes down from 9 AM to noon on Columbus Day at Bass River Beach (aka “Smuggler’s Beach”). If you know your way around a sand shovel and bucket, you might consider showing off your own beachfront artistry…
The festival also includes the Seaside Road Race on Sunday, which plays out along the Bass River, as well as the 40th Annual Shot Gun Start Canoe & Kayak Race launching at 10 AM on Monday from Bass River Beach with a finish line at Wilbur Park.
Bass River Beach is also the site of the Yarmouth Seaside Festival Bonfire on Saturday evening, which’ll come embellished by a DJ set and a smorgasbord of hot dogs, chili, chowder, and other eats.
On Sunday at 8 PM, a grand fireworks show will take place over Seagull Beach in West Yarmouth.
